Samuel was born in OCT 1839 in Kentucky, the son of MARTIN JUDY GOSSETT and MARY ANN ATKINSON.
His wife was Jane Unknown Gossett, who he married in ABT 1861. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Joseph (1862-?), Lizzie A. (1864-?), Ella (1868-?), Belle (1875-?), Mannie (1877-?) and Ettie May (1879-?).

Samuel was half brother of John Mathias Gossett (both sons of Martin J. Gossett). Samuel from Martin's first wife; John Mathias from 2nd wife).
